Commissioned by SENA, managing the remuneration rights of all Dutch artists and record producers, a research has been held among 1.000 Dutch consumers. Findings show that music and sound are important to customers.

This study focuses on a number of themes:

  • The memory and experience of music in the store
  • Importance of volume
  • Preference for music
  • The effect of music on shopping behavior

MUSIC AND THE BRAIN

Commissioned by SENA, managing the remuneration rights of all Dutch artists and record producers, a research with a MRI scan has been held to find a relation between music, emotions and productivity.

This study focuses on a number of themes:
  • How does pop music affect the mood of workers
  • The effect of music on working speed and accuracy
  • Preference for music

 

FINDINGS

Music is an important factor in the length of stay of a customer in the store. 66% of visitors will leave earlier or stay longer in the store because of music.

Music should be tailored to the hedonic or utilitarian nature of the customer and the product. Utilitarian clients want to buy without too much distraction. Hedonistic customers are easier to persuade with music and sound.
